WHY Hypnosis Helps

Updated: May 25

Most people can't explain WHY hypnosis helps. There are several theories that attempt to explain why Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy works and helps people with problems, habits and goals. But as a clinician, I can tell you the REAL reason Hypnotherapy helps is this:

  1. When the hypnotherapist and the client are in rapport- the client feels safe and can allow themselves to relax.

  1. The hypnotherapist is trained to listen well for what the client needs and what gets in the way.

  2. The properly trained hypnotherapist is is trained to understand how people learn and how they process information so the hypnotherapist can speak to the client in the way that matches the client. That allows the suggestions to be accepted by the client.

  3. Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy work because the words spoken by the hypnotherapist resonate with the client because the hypnotherapist has gained their trust and has credibility.

  4. And the hypnotherapist BELIEVES what he/she is telling the client and therefore the client can step into the belief and move forward.

Below is a compilation of why hypnosis/hypnotherapy helps people and works well.

  1. Suggestibility: When a person is in a hypnotic state, they become highly responsive to suggestions. The hypnotherapist can provide instructions or suggestions that can influence the person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This heightened suggestibility may make it easier for individuals to make positive changes, overcome certain habits.

  2. Relaxation and heightened focus: Hypnosis often involves inducing a state of deep relaxation and heightened focus. This relaxed state can help individuals bypass their conscious critical thinking and access their subconscious mind more easily.

  3. Altered state of consciousness: Hypnosis can create an altered state of consciousness that is different from our ordinary waking state. In this state, individuals may experience a heightened sense of imagination, enhanced imagery, and increased openness to new perspectives. This altered state can be conducive to exploring and addressing personal issues, overcoming obstacles, and fostering positive changes.

I hope you now understand why hypnosis helps people.

If you're interested in a career in hypnosis, keep in mind that all training is not the same. All schools are not the same. All clinicians are not the same. The best advice I can offer is to call the school and have a conversation with the Director. Ask for the information that is important to you. Your success depends on making the best choice for your goals.
